Lipid Profiles
The Lipid Profile consists of different blood cholesterol measurements.
Lipids (fats) contribute to the build-up of plaque on the inside
of arteries, leading to a condition known as atherosclerosis (resulting
in obstruction of blood flow). A positive relationship exists
between the amount of cholesterol circulating in the blood and
the risk of developing Coronary Heart Disease (CHD). The higher
the total blood cholesterol, the great the risk of CHD.
Total cholesterol, LDL cholesterol (bad cholesterol), and HDL
cholesterol (good cholesterol) can all be influenced by diet and
exercise.
