What does fitness mean to you? Being able to break a 1:30 on 100M freestyle, cracking the 225 lb. barrier on bench press or just reclaiming your waist size and wardrobe from a few years ago? Fitness is subjective. And for that reason, the Little Rock Athletic Club offers a range of equipment, programs and instruction to help you accomplish your goals.
We believe you have the best chance of getting and staying fit when you’re engaged and having fun in your workouts — which is why we are constantly integrating new techniques, technology and instruction. From newer pursuits like barre and CrossFit to time-honored activities like yoga and spinning, we’re committed to helping you achieve better health and a better life.
The Club offers complimentary strategy sessions for all members. During the session, a personal trainer will test your baseline fitness, perform an InBody body composition scan, review your fitness goals, design a basic program to get you going and introduce you to any equipment in which you are interested. To schedule yours, contact Lisa Cooper or ask about them in the Membership Office.
You’ll be coached by an experienced cyclist who celebrates the benefits of riding both indoors and out. The class, which is set to music, varies speed, resistance and intensity for a fun, energetic ride. You’ll climb, sprint and recover for a time-efficient, high calorie burning cardio workout. Some of our instructors use Spivi and cycling videos as added bonuses. And, of course, these classes are a great way to avoid the cold, dark and rain.
We ride inside but the goal of the class is to improve your outdoor cycling performance. Riders have the option of monitoring and tracking their heart rate, cadence, training zone and calorie burn using our Spivi software. All experience and fitness levels are welcome.
In this class we whoop it up and work it out on the bike. You (and your abs) will be fully engaged on this mixed interval ride. With life size dance videos playing for motivation, you’ll shred calories while the time flies by. For grins – and we expect lots of them – we’ll throw in some upper body work and send you home fit and happy.
With constantly varied, high-intensity functional movements, CrossFit is a training philosophy that coaches people of all shapes and sizes to improve their physical well-being and cardiovascular fitness in a hardcore yet accepting and encouraging environment. CrossFit contends that a person is as fit as they are proficient in each of ten general physical skills: cardiovascular/respiratory, endurance, stamina, strength, flexibility, power, speed, agility, balance, coordination, and accuracy. It is, by design, broad, general and inclusive. Its specialty is not specializing. To learn more about our CrossFit program, visit our Razorback CrossFit page.
Not sure how to use a particular piece? We have Fitness Staff members available to explain equipment, suggest exercises, demonstrate proper form and provide “spots” free of charge. If you don’t see a Fitness Staff member, please ask the Front Desk to radio them.
With six goals on our NCAA regulation size court, members play and practice on two full courts “right-sized” for our membership. Weekdays, from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm, the basketball gym is reserved for adults only full-court play. In the evenings, one court is reserved for “challenge court” play. Children, ages 10 and above, are welcome to shoot in the gym as long as a parent or guardian remains on the premises.
We have two glass-enclosed racquetball courts which you may reserve one day in advance by contacting the Front Desk. There is no fee for reserving a court. We also offer leagues for members of all abilities. Participants play once a week on a regularly scheduled day and time. Leagues normally run for 16 weeks. The league fee is $30 per league. For more information, contact Danny Davis.
Volleyball players of all abilities are welcome to join us for co-ed recreational play on Thursdays at 7:00 pm in the Gym during the school year and on the sand volleyball court during the summer. No need to sign up, just show up and play. Children with volleyball experience age 13+ are welcome.
